Competition Judging  - UNITY

From the Judging Category Description Book; where we were 2011 (C-), 2012 goal (C), and our current dream (C+)

The Showmanship Category – Judging the salesmanship of both musical and physical performance

"In evaluating the performance portion of the category, the showmanship judge considers the elements of successful MUSICAL PRESENTATIONS . . . .  When a performance exceeds the basic requirements, when the performers are poised and in command, when audience rapport is successfully established and when careful preparation is flawlessly implemented and the audience is truly ‘sold’ on the total presentation the showmanship judge can award an above-average score."

Showmanship Level Descriptors (i.e. instant leveling)

Vocal Skills

2011    Beginning to work to strengthen

C        Performance shows some understanding, but continued work necessary

C+      Progress evident but more needed

Command of Stage

            2011    Shows signs of insecurity

C        Performers seem composed, but fail to establish any sense of “ownership”

C+      Some moments of “take charge”

Imagery, Character

            2011    Stage persona tentative

C        Performance lacks personality and signs of establishing setting for musical story

C+      Some attempts at character evident

Visual Plan

2011    Impacted by lack of physical stamina

C        Planning evident, but performers need to build physical stamina to present plan effectively

            C+      Stamina inconsistent

Visual Unity

2011    Efforts evident, but unity fleeting

C        Unity in small details, but missing the bigger picture of unit approach to selling the music

C+      Basic unit evident, but inconsistent

Visual Energy

2011    Glimpses of energy, not sustained

C        Energy level needs a jump start to add life and reach beyond footlights to grab the audience

            C+      Attempts at energy apparent

Board Business

Next scheduled board meeting is January 10.  Please notify Sharon of any issues that you would like addressed.
